Marin City Unites to Protect Phillips Field and the Future of MCS-FC
In a powerful show of unity, parents, players, and neighbors came together to defend community access to Phillips field. And their voices were heard. Following a strong community response at a recent public hearing, Mill Valley Soccer Club has officially withdrawn from discussions related to a proposed Public-Private Partnership for Phillips field.
This decision marks a major turning point for Marin City, Sausalito and Marin City Sausalito-FC reaffirming that Phillips Field remains a space built by and for the local community. This is more than a victory for our soccer club, it’s a victory for every child we represent who deserves a safe, local place to play.
But the work is not done. While the withdrawal of Mill Valley Soccer Club is a significant win, the path ahead remains challenging. The $1.5 million previously proposed through the partnership now represents a real funding gap for completing Phase 1 of the Phillips Field renovation. Without that funding, the District faces a shortfall, but we won’t let that stop us. We’ll help raise it together. Every dollar, every volunteer hour, every show of support matters. Marin City Sausalito-FC has always done more with less and we’ll do it again. Phillips Field is more than a sports facility; it’s a cornerstone of identity, opportunity, and pride for our community. We’re not just protecting a space, we’re protecting a legacy.
MCS-FC and the community will now focus on launching a fundraising and partnership campaign to bridge the funding gap and complete Phillips Field improvements with community oversight and transparency.
